Merino Wool

Nature’s performance fabric

Merino is naturally odor-resistant, temperature-regulating, and incredibly soft. It needs far less washing than synthetic fabrics — airing it out between wears is often enough.

Use a gentle or wool cycle. Turn garments inside out. Cold water is even better.

No fabric softener

Softener coats the fibers and ruins merino’s natural moisture-wicking and odor-fighting properties.

Lay flat to dry

Reshape while damp and dry flat on a towel. Avoid hanging, which can stretch the fabric. Never tumble dry on high heat.

Pilling is normal

Light pilling can occur in high-friction areas. Use a fabric shaver or sweater stone to gently remove pills — the garment will look like new.

Wash less, air more

Merino naturally resists odor. Hang it in fresh air overnight instead of washing after every wear. Your clothes (and the planet) will thank you.

Tencel / Lyocell

Silky smooth, sustainably made

Tencel is made from sustainably harvested wood pulp. It’s exceptionally soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking. Care is very similar to merino.

Gentle cycle at 30°C

Use a mild detergent. Tencel fibers are strong when dry but more delicate when wet, so handle gently.

Skip the softener

Like merino, Tencel is naturally soft. Fabric softener clogs the fibers and reduces breathability.

Dry flat or line dry

Reshape while damp and avoid wringing. If needed, iron on a low setting while slightly damp.

Naturally fresh

Tencel’s smooth fiber surface inhibits bacteria growth, so it stays fresh longer between washes.

Fleece

Warm, light, quick-drying

Fleece is your go-to insulation layer. It dries fast and stays warm even when damp. With the right care, it keeps its loft and softness for years.

Turn inside out

This protects the outer face from pilling and snagging against other garments in the wash.

Cold wash only

Use cold water on a gentle cycle. Hot water damages the synthetic fibers and causes pilling.

No iron, no high heat

Fleece melts under high heat. Never iron it. If using a dryer, use the lowest setting or air dry.

Air dry is best

Hang to dry away from direct heat sources. Fleece dries incredibly fast anyway — usually just a few hours.

Down & Insulation

Maximum warmth, minimum weight

Down is the best warmth-to-weight insulation available. Washing it correctly is crucial — done right, your jacket regains its full loft and warmth.

Use a down-specific wash

Regular detergent strips the natural oils from down. Use Nikwax Down Wash or a similar down-specific cleaner.

Gentle cycle, 30°C

Close all zippers and Velcro. Wash on a gentle cycle. Run an extra rinse to remove all detergent from the down clusters.

Tumble dry with tennis balls

This is the key step. Tumble dry on low heat with 2–3 clean tennis balls. They break up the clumped down and restore full loft. It takes a few cycles.

Store uncompressed

Never store your down jacket in a stuff sack for extended periods. Hang it or keep it in a breathable garment bag to maintain loft.

DWR Coating

Durable Water Repellent finish

DWR is the invisible coating that makes water bead up and roll off your jacket. Over time it wears down, but you can reactivate and reapply it yourself.

How to tell if your DWR needs attention: If water soaks into the fabric instead of beading up, it’s time to reproof.

Clean the garment first

Dirt and oils block DWR from working. Wash with a tech-specific cleaner (like Nikwax Tech Wash) on a gentle cycle.

Reactivate with heat

Tumble dry on low heat for 20 minutes or use a warm iron (with a cloth between). Heat reactivates the existing DWR coating.

Re-apply if needed

If heat alone doesn’t restore beading, apply a wash-in or spray-on DWR treatment (like Nikwax TX.Direct). Follow the product instructions.

Performance & Stretch Fabrics

Leggings, sports bras, base layers

Your high-stretch performance pieces use elastane blends for their shape and compression. Proper care keeps the stretch and recovery intact.

Cold wash always

Heat breaks down elastane fibers over time. Always use cold water on a gentle cycle. Turn garments inside out.

🚫

No fabric softener

Softener leaves a residue that degrades stretch and wicking properties. Use a mild, sport-specific detergent.

Air dry only

Hang or lay flat to dry away from direct sunlight. The dryer is the #1 enemy of stretchy fabrics — the heat destroys elastane.

Watch for snags

Avoid washing with items that have zippers, hooks, or Velcro. Use a mesh laundry bag for extra protection.

General Tips

Especially merino & Tencel. Spot clean small stains. Air out between wears. Your clothes will last significantly longer.

Protect delicate items from friction and snagging. Especially helpful for merino, performance fabrics, and anything with zippers.

Zip up zippers

Open zippers catch and snag other fabrics in the wash. Close them all before tossing garments in the machine.
