Abisko Merino Socks – The Story Behind How They're Made

As avid hikers, we struggled for years to find the perfect hiking sock. Nothing quite met our standards – too loose, too itchy, or they’d slip down after a few miles. So, we decided to take matters into our own hands and create our own hiking sock. Little did we know how challenging – and rewarding – this journey would be.

We started by searching far and wide for the right sock manufacturer, only to find a hidden gem right in our backyard – just 20 minutes from our headquarters! This local, family-owned sock maker had a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship and was eager to collaborate on a project as personal to us as it was to them. With their expertise and our many demands, we began the development process, refining every detail with care.

Our first challenge?

Common issues we faced with other merino socks: they were too wide at the toes, had seams that caused blisters, lacked compression (hello, slouching socks!), and just weren’t comfortable. We wanted socks that would feel amazing and look even better.

Next, we searched for the finest merino wool and found the perfect source in New Zealand – 100% museling-free and soft as a cloud. After countless prototypes, tests, and re-designs, we finally perfected the Abisko Merino Sock.
